Michael Jackson Dead at 50
I have been meaning to start this blog for a while, but procrastination is too important to me sometimes. Part of my hesitation has been seeking what direction I should go with this blog. Should I focus on politics? Pop culture? I'm still not sure. What I am sure about is I am going to let loose and say what I really think. The name of the blog is Nonpopulist, so one can deduct that the intent is to somehow be anti-popular. I'm not going to spell it out for you. Let it form in your mind. I'll give you a basic tenet- I won't like or agree with something just because it's popular with the majority of people. I judge everything on merit basis, not mob approval. I think there are some people out there like me. So with that premise stuff out of the way, we're off...
Michael Jackson died yesterday. So far I've heard people mostly choosing to remember him for his music and the Wiz. Ok, cha'mone, I like Man in the Mirror and Thriller too, but how is his questionable history with young boys being overlooked? Man in the mirror is basically an admission of guilt in my opinion. At the very least he violated the innocence of young boys, and (I realize this is a generalization) usually in these kinds of cases where there is smoke there is fire. People live in denial with the hype around celebrities. For instance, in the Fox News story linked above at the end of the article a man compares Michael Jackson to Kennedy. Really? People, please quit gushing as if Jackson's legacy is not tainted. Also, it's so easy to slam dead people because they can't slam back.
